Google Photos has always been a lucrative place to store photos/videos because of its promise of Free Unlimited Storage. Now Google bundling Google Drive & Photos storage and putting a cap of 15 GB on it. If you need more storage, you have to buy a subscription.
Changes will take effect from June 1, 2021. And Google will start counting 15 GB quota towards uploads after that date. Anything you store before June 1, 2021 will fall under unlimited promise.
Is it the right thing to do? Maybe. But a wider concern is the practice of tech companies with deeper pockets killing their competition. Offer service for free or at low cost and kill your competition. Then start charging customers. Maybe now it will be a fair fight for Dropbox or Box to compete with Google Drive. – Google
